In 2009, we took the money we usually spend on freebies like branded pens and stress balls and invested it in something far more worthwhile – our long-term literacy, employability and education programmes in East London. In 2010, we gave students the opportunity to choose from 3 charities from the across the world that they thought was the most worthwhile cause. Projeto Alavanca in Sao Paulo was the chosen charity for their work with young people living in the Brazilian city. The scheme was such a hit with students that we’ve decided to extend it to help support three incredibly worthwhile causes and again this year you get to decide where the money goes. The causes we’ve selected are listed below:
Clapton Girls' Academy Debating Team
Linklaters have been supporting Hackney education for over ten years and effective communication is at the heart of that work. Clapton girls only began debating last year and ended it as London champions - your support will get them nationwide!
Centro Social do Bairro de Maio
Working in one of Lisbon's most disadvantaged neighbourhoods, this project offers young people extra support to achieve their potential. Linklaters volunteers provide supplementary lessons and language classes, as well as seven bursaries for university study. Your vote will help others take that important step.
Linklaters School, Samarua
In partnership with the India School Fund, Linklaters fully funds this rural school for 200 students. Bringing stable education to this remote part of Uttar Pradesh is already making a huge difference to children and their families. A vote from you will help provide many of the extras we take for granted: books, playground games and even chalk!
