Krishna Mistry – Transcript
Hi, I’m Krishna. I am a law graduate from LSE. I joined
Linklaters in March this year and I’m currently a first seat
trainee in Litigation. I did a vacation scheme at the firm in
August 2005, which I really enjoyed. I have always wanted to work
in an exciting, challenging environment and my vacation scheme
showed me the many opportunities available at Linklaters.
To be honest though, it was meeting the people and experiencing
the working culture for myself which really confirmed my desire to
join the firm. The people here are very friendly. They’re helpful,
willing to answer your questions and it’s great working alongside
such talented colleagues. The firm operates an open-door approach
and the partners are very approachable.
Linklaters has a very large global presence and this means there
are many opportunities to travel and broaden your skill-set. I hope
to do a six-month secondment to Hong Kong during my training
contract, to let me experience working life in the Asian
markets.
Because Linklaters is a global firm, it means a lot of the work
we do on a daily basis has an international element to it. I did
some research on preliminary issues in the Cayman Islands and was
recently involved in the matter where we had to serve claim forms
on 17 defendants around the world.
You often face challenges as a trainee. In Litigation we’re
often asked to advise on new points of law where there are no
answers and no precedents. It can be very challenging to come up
with innovative solutions, but it’s also very rewarding and it’s
the best part of the work we do.
The support network at Linklaters is fantastic. Within the firm,
on every deal and every transaction, you work within a team and
there’s always someone on hand to help. During my training contract
so far, I’ve also done some community work. I took part in the
London Legal Work in May this year. It was a 10km walk around
London and it raised money for the Citizens’ Advice Bureau at the
Royal Courts of Justice. I also volunteer for an afternoon a week
on a fortnightly basis at the Disability Law Service where I
respond to disability-related enquiries. This is a great chance as
a trainee to have some responsibility and develop my skills. More
importantly, it lets me give something back to the community, and
it lets me help people who wouldn’t otherwise have access to legal
advice.
