One firm, global opportunities.

as a legal assistant, before becoming a trainee in
2006.
Seeing things
differently.
A degree in Law has never been a prerequisite
at Linklaters. I feel my degree in Chinese and Japanese gives me a
different perspective on some of the challenges the firm faces and
that’s the reason Linklaters encourages lawyers from varying
backgrounds. The teams here are incredibly diverse and each
individual brings different attributes. This allows us to see
client transactions from different points of view and, in turn,
ensures we continue to offer the innovative solutions we’re
renowned for.
Going East.
My degree has also contributed to many
opportunities for international travel. I’ve been to Tokyo as a
legal assistant, and then back to Tokyo as a trainee on a client
secondment. I’ve also been to China to work on the signing, and
then the closing, of a very high profile deal which went on to win
both China Deal of Year and M&A Deal of the Year. I’ll be
honest, the transaction involved a few all-nighters, but having an
excellent team (and the honour of having probably the most famous
lawyer in China singing happy birthday to me during one such night)
made it a great experience.
Together as one.
The nature of Linklaters is that we’re one
firm. Aside from time difference, there really is no disparity
between working with someone in Singapore or the person next to you
in London. And wherever you may be located, there are always
opportunities for pro bono work. To date, I’ve been involved in the
citizenship programme and mentoring programme, and have found them
to be not only great for my personal development, but also highly
rewarding.
