Matt Honeyben
Matt studied a Law degree at Oxford and joined Linklaters
in September 2007. He has qualified in September 2009 into our
Litigation practice and, together with the team, is helping to make
history.
An environment like no other.
I joined Linklaters as I wanted to be working on the most
innovative transactions alongside the most talented and interesting
people. The opportunity to work with and learn from some of the
best lawyers in the world was not one that I wanted to turn down.
The high-profile work I’m involved in now is second to none, but
it’s the people at Linklaters, as much as the work that we do, that
attracted me to the firm.
High-profile work.
I have recently qualified into the Litigation department in our
London office. I spent my last six months in this department as a
trainee and have been working on several different deals, including
the Lehman Brothers administration.
Quite a journey.
The Lehman Brothers transaction is just one exceptional
experience of many. Another came in my trainee seat in Project
Finance, where I spent the whole time working on the financing of
the M25 road widening. The knock-on effects of the credit crunch
meant that we had 20 banks financing the deal. This made
negotiating the terms of the deal and finalising the documents a
hugely challenging task and it took a great amount of teamwork and
drive to close the deal in the timeframe in which we did.
Not wasting a secondment.
There is enormous variety in the work at Linklaters. There is
great scope to work abroad in one of our foreign offices and you
can spend time with our clients at their offices, too. Both avenues
provide different insights into how the business world works and
trainees are encouraged to consider a secondment during their
training contract. The international travel does not stop with work
either. I’ve been lucky enough to represent Linklaters playing
sport in Milan, Stockholm and Prague.
