When the celebrity circuit's all part of a day's
work.

Equity & Debt Markets, Corporate and a Finance seat in

One way of working.
Teamwork is everything at Linklaters, wherever
you’re located in the world. We all rely on each other to work
incredibly hard, meet deadlines, communicate effectively and,
sometimes, when the hours are long, keep each other’s spirits up. A
great deal of emphasis is placed on being a team player and that
means realising the value you add to what the firm does as a whole,
as well as never letting anyone down. For me, it’s an incredibly
rewarding way of working.
Team individuality.
Our team ethos is part of what makes our offer
to global businesses and institutions so unique. I have been
involved in a pitch for a potential client. The client was keen to
meet a junior lawyer who they expected would be dealing with their
day-to-day queries. I was asked by the partner to be that junior
lawyer and so I was introduced to the client during the last round
of meetings, before they were due to decide on whether to engage a
competitor or Linklaters. Naturally I was incredibly nervous as I
knew I had to make a good impression. Fortunately we were
successful and today I’m their main point of contact. I’m certain
it was our united front that won the business.
Celebrity status.
You will, even as a trainee, get a great deal
of direct exposure to clients. In my fourth seat in Finance, Dubai,
I was working on a deal with a senior partner to help establish a
joint venture between our client and Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou to
open ‘Easyhotels’ in Dubai. I always felt integral to the team and
even had a meeting with Sir Stelios and the client without the
partner to help decide the size, colour and design of the hotels –
they opted for something orange of course! It all culminated in a
midnight signing dinner with the client and Sir Stelios at the
Buddha Bar in Dubai, where I also got to meet a top music artist
from Lebanon.
Work hard, play hard.
As well as international travel, high-profile deals are an
everyday reality here. Importantly for me however, hard work is
complemented with some outstanding social occasions. I have had the
opportunity to attend Wimbledon, Ascot and Highgrove, giving me a
chance to get to know my colleagues and clients on a personal
basis, as well as a business one.
