Victoria Winstanley – Transcript
Hi, my name is Victoria Winstanley. I am nearly two years
qualified in the Corporate department at Linklaters. I joined the
firm in September 2004 and qualified in 2006. I studied politics
and modern history at the University of Manchester and went on to
do my GDL at Nottingham Law School and my LPC at BPP.
One thing that really impressed me about Linklaters was that
being a non-law student just wasn’t an issue and I have had a lot
of support and encouragement throughout my career. At Linklaters,
being a team player is very important and really what that means is
good communication, meeting deadlines and being able to work with
others.
One of the reasons I joined the firm was its international reach
and I’ve had the opportunity to work in some of the overseas
offices. I spent six months in Dubai, which was incredibly exciting
because we had just opened an office when I went over there. Not
least, having dinner with Sir Stelios of the Easyjet fame one
evening was really quite exciting. I also worked in our Moscow
office fire-fighting out there as the office got really busy and
they needed some help.
But aside from working hard, I have also played in the
Linklaters netball team which was really good fun and gave me the
opportunity to meet people from around the firm which is great
because there are quite a lot of people here.
I do some pro bono work which involves going into schools in
Hackney, teaching kids there about human rights issues, immigration
and other things which may affect their life. Pro bono work is
really encouraged in the firm.
