Community investment

& pro bono

We believe that everyone at Linklaters should have the opportunity to participate in community and charitable work. Our programme offers projects to suit everyone and we run regular events to promote different initiatives, keeping voluntary activities front-of-mind.

Generally speaking, our volunteering work concentrates on causes that are local to the firm because we believe we should be a positive influence in our local communities – wherever in the world we happen to be. Our strategy also sets out three other criteria: our work must be focused on achievement (in other words, helping emerging talent to achieve its potential), enterprise (doing everything we can to help enterprising and entrepreneurial people to flourish) or access to justice (helping others to assert their legal rights and know their legal responsibilities).

Linking Work With Learning

A great example of our work can be found in our flagship community investment programme, Linking Work With Learning. Over a period of three years, we’ll be investing over £1 million in time and money to help raise levels of literacy and employability throughout our local community – the borough of Hackney in East London. By sharing our thinking, the programme enables us to deliver new opportunities and a different learning experience to pupils of all ages, while helping them develop a whole range of work and life skills.

To date, almost 2,500 students from over 50 schools have benefited from the Linking Work With Learning programme. Each student has been exposed to tasks that help improve personal and interpersonal skills. Many have developed skills for the workplace or future study too. Importantly, through the interaction with these students, we hope they will develop a more positive attitude towards learning, establish knowledge and understanding of the workplace, heighten career awareness and encourage the fulfilment of their aspirations.

Our efforts have been recognised too. In 2008, Linking Work With Learning was a finalist in the Law Society’s Awards for Excellence.
